What color lipstick did flappers wear? – 1920S Cape Dress

The answer to the question “color lipstick?” would likely be all sorts of shades of orange, as well as red, pink, and sometimes blue. This is because it was believed that lipstick is one of the most powerful ways in which we convey our sense of pride and identity.

When wearing orange lipstick did not fit with a flapper’s sense of beauty, flappers would often make use of other colors to achieve the same effect. To avoid any unnecessary embarrassment, this did not involve any artificial coloring except for the lighter shade of orange, with the “color” being chosen by the wearer with the help of a flapper handbook.
