I guess the answer is often “none,” and the best thing to wear at all times is a pair of clear, colorless lipstick. The best color you can have in the back of your drawer is one that’s free of the smell of alcohol and is opaque. There are a million and one color formulas for the lips, and they all work for different flappers. For example, if you’re looking for the ultimate in matte lip color that’s completely invisible against the skin, use white. If you want to be able to put a lipstick on without a problem, use white. If you still need a little lift, but it won’t be uncomfortable and you don’t want to overdo it, use white. But if you’re looking for a good formula with a little bit of extra definition, go with the cream version. If you want a little more shine, use a lip stick. If you want to create an even higher shine, apply a high angle gloss. Whatever you end up finding should work with your skin tone. This way, you’ve got all the options you need.
If you want to see what you would look like with a certain makeup, you’d be amazed at the results.
It’s an interesting thing. At one time our society considered black lipstick an insult. It was never something we’d call sexy or beautiful. Not for centuries did it seem like black people could be looked on with respect. In the 1800s it began to be accepted. If you had a black family you would have been expected to be very elegant, and therefore have a beautiful coat. You were expected to wear your hair as neat and tied as possible, with only a single braid, no more than six inches. So many people chose to dye their hair blonde, even though it was considered bad form, at the time. You would have to walk down the aisle with your hair dyed blonde or black — as it were — and they would not have the same opportunity to be seen.
But now we’re in the time of #blakelee and they’re so beautiful. And they’re such beautiful people. A lot of the time when I see white people have beautiful hair and I look at them, I see a blonde-haired black girl. It’s pretty amazing. I’m not saying that because I’ve had black friends that they should feel bad for them — you don’t look like that out here in America, so you shouldn’t feel bad —, but it makes you feel a little bit
