What is a CIF grant? – Dhhs Winners List

A CIF grant is an ongoing grant that allows a university to support a researcher in research areas in which they are highly ranked in their field. Examples include:

CISP (Computer Science Institute) Grants

In 2015, the CIF announced the establishment of the Computer Science Institute’s (CSE) annual Grants Program, in partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF). These funds support five research areas of the CSE’s broad research agenda in computer science and applied AI. Grants of up to $1 million are available to three recipients from the following organizations:

NSF

National Science Foundation

MIT Corporation

MIT Media Lab

A CIF grant in each of these grants may support two research fields: one focused narrowly on CSE’s research agenda; and the other that covers a broader area of interest. These grants can be used to sponsor multiple research fields or projects, which can be carried out to explore ideas or technologies in fields of application other than CSE.

CSE’s CIF grants are also available to students and postdocs with special requirements. For more information, visit http://www.cse.mit.edu/cse-grants/

How can I apply to receive a CIF grant?

The CIF is accepting applications at the following deadline: July 24, 2017 – 10:59 PM US Pacific Time (UTC -7)

Please apply to each grant as carefully as you would for an NSF grant. Applications are due by 10:59 PM US Pacific Time. The CSE grant application must be submitted no later than August 26, 2017. The CSE grant application may be obtained through Nominals, the CSE’s award portal.

Please submit the entire application form:

How does a faculty member use the CIF Grant?

Faculty members participating in the CSE Programs will use this annual grant to continue their work in their research categories. Faculty members, graduate students, postdocs, and staff of the CSE also use the CIF to pursue topics in the CSE program, or to study areas of research that might benefit from support from that program. Some CSE programs also support faculty members in the pursuit of related topics. For more information about how research and work can support each other, see the CSE Program Overview.
