What type of grants are available? – Federal Government Funding Programs

Federal programs that assist Native Americans receive a majority of their funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers several programs through various agencies to increase access to the food and skills necessary to sustain the Native American population. As a result, programs vary significantly within the federal programs that provide Native American people with access to affordable or nutritious products, as well as a supportive community. The following charts outline the various federal and tribal grant programs offered to support Native Americans, whether a grant is available from an agency within or outside of the U.S. Department of Interior, and the types of benefits they offer.

The following table provides example grants that might be offered from the Department of Agriculture to a Native American family to provide a small amount of food, food supplements, education for children, and a job training program to provide work skills to provide employment opportunities for Native American workers. There are many more examples of grants offered to Native Americans through the federal programs provided through the federal departments that deal with food security and agriculture, and the grant amounts may vary. Most grants available through the USDA are for rural residents within the country, though many other Native American communities are also able to receive grants from the federal government for specific rural needs. Some federal grant programs, such as the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, also provide programs to support Native Americans.
