“It was always my goal to reach a point where I’d never had to worry about getting too close to a child’s mouth, so that we were just using a couple of long, loud tones that I could use whenever I felt myself reaching a threshold. But that wasn’t really the ideal situation,” says Mancini.
As part of “The Ventriloquism Project,” Mancini and his collaborators recently launched an open-source program that, in combination with the company’s popular app, lets students at a California high school teach themselves to mimic, in their own voices, a broad variety of voices. Students must be familiar with a wide variety of spoken English words and phrases. The app includes recordings of over 700 voices of people who speak American English, French, Hebrew, Italian, Dutch, and various ethnicities. The most realistic is of a young man who sounds like Jimmy Stewart. For the younger students, playing the game might be more daunting than it might initially sound. “It’s much more like an exercise in social interaction,” Mancini explains. “You put yourself in the face of an opportunity to learn and to practice, and you’re really learning how to imitate the whole person.”
Tottenham are hoping to tie up a deal for the highly sought after winger Victor Wanyama on Monday, according to The Tottenham Hotspur Mail.
The Kenyan international has found himself stuck in limbo since last month, but Spurs are hopeful it is all in the past now.
Wanyama impressed the scouts at last summer’s World Cup and has been linked with a move to London, but so far Spurs appear to have little chance of signing the winger this summer at this stage.
The Mail says the 22-year-old would be open to a move back to his homeland next season, should a club come calling.
If the deal gets done, Wanyama would be Tottenham’s second signing of the summer after winger Lewis Holtby was brought in from Burnley for just under £13m.
The pair have combined for six goals and seven assists for Tottenham, who are unbeaten in 23 Premier League matches under Mauricio Pochettino.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are currently considering a January move for Manchester United star Angel Di Maria, with reports linking the £67m Argentina winger to the north London club.
