Do you need to prime canvas for acrylic paint? – Online Art Lessons For High School

We always try to prime canvas with acrylic paint, because they are very forgiving, and do not require much preparation.

Paint the body of your sketch or drawing in a single stroke on smooth, clean and non-toxic acrylic paint using the following steps.

Step 1. Use the “Color & Blend Tools” to create a basic outline for your brush strokes.

Step 2. Apply a medium shade of grey to the body outline.

Step 3. Make a line from a point at the centre of the outline to an edge of the outline. Line up the line with your brush strokes and draw your brushstroke in a straight line.

Step 4. Add another line to the edge of the canvas from another point at the centre of the outline. This line should be just on the edge of the outline you just made. Draw this line in a diagonal.

Step 5. Add another line to the edge of the canvas from another point at the centre of the outlines. The next line should be just on the edge of the outline you just made. Draw this line in a diagonal.

Step 6. Add another line to the edge of the canvas from another point at the centre of the outlines. Again, the next line should be just on the edge of the outline you just made. Draw this line in a diagonal.

Step 7. Apply a large stroke to any excess grey that is on the canvas.

Step 8. Apply a small stroke to any excess light blue, yellow and brown paint that is on the canvas.

Step 9. Blend your colours together to create a warm and cheerful palette of shadows.

Step 10. Paint with a very large brush on the top half of the canvas.

Step 11. Paint all of the dark colours at the top half of the canvas with a medium grey. The top half will create a warm look, as our shadows will take our shadows.

Step 12. Paint with a large brush on the bottom half of the canvas.

Step 13. Paint with a small brush on the bottom half of the canvas and fill your shadowed areas with light light blue, yellow and brown to create a bright look.

Step 14. Mix an excess shadow of either white or green paint on the bottom of the canvas.
