A Florida woman is accusing a police officer of lying about his actions when he shot and injured her when she called the police for help after a domestic disturbance.
Tina Vesterman, 40, of Naples, was in the throes of a bipolar disorder when she called police to report a domestic dispute between her and her ex-husband, Orlando FBI Agent Tom Boles said in a statement.
Officer Mike Custer allegedly entered the apartment and saw “a large knife on the floor” that Vesterman was waving, the statement said. He also allegedly saw Vesterman and her ex-husband arguing from the top of the stairs to the kitchen.
At this time, the detective “knew that the suspect was at this place before” a SWAT team arrived to enter the apartment, the statement said. Custer did not see a weapon in Vesterman’s hand, according to the statement.
According to the Miami Herald, the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested Custer at his home Thursday, after the Florida Highway Patrol received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at Vesterman’s apartment on Oct. 13 on North Pine Street in Melbourne.
But Vesterman told police that he was the one who started the fight, according to the Herald
